Description
A flattened body painted with a landscape and Qianlong poem on reverse. Framed in imitation puddingstone ground. Red glazed Qianlong mark to base, 18th to early 19th C. H. 5.7 cm (2 1/4 in).Provenance: Richard C. Pearce (1892-1972) purchased the Northern Miners publication in 1916 and helped to chronicle the mining industry in Canada. His father, Lt. Col. Norman was a Lieutenant in the navy and traveled across the world. Over this time through his journeys in the Far East he collected Chinese snuff bottles which were later inherited by his son and grandchildren. The collection has found a home with the Pearce’s for nearly a century.Original bills of sale show that many of the snuffs were purchased in 1923 from George Crofts & Co, a well-known collector and philanthropist of Chinese antiques in Toronto.
Condition
Minor lose of enamel due to age, mostly on the gold rim. Two cracks along the inside of the neck possibly due to firing. Painted wooden stopper, spoon missing.
