Intricate Punched Tin “Paul Revere” Style Hanging Lantern
c. 1790s Federal Period, Punched Tin “Paul Revere” Style Hanging Lantern, Choice Fine.
An excellent example of a classic design late 1700s Punched Tin Lantern commonly known as a “Paul Revere” style lantern. This example measures about 14.5” tall and 5” in diameter at its base. These were usually used with the door open, if possible, or carried with the door closed. Surprisingly, it provides sufficient light even with the door closed through the pattern of punched holes and small slits. The hinged door works well and the door latch, as well as the top loop hanger, is still attached. This lantern has a natural rich brown patina and appears perfect for display in any Colonial or period lighting collection.
