Description
Rogerson (John Bolton) A Voice from the Town and Other Poems, first edition, presentation copy from the author to William Wordsworth at head of title, also signed by Wordsworth, further ink inscriptions on front free endpaper, slightly foxed and browned, hinges a little weak, original cloth, gilt, spine slightly sunned, small tear and chip at head, 8vo, London and Manchester, 1842. An interesting association volume with a provenance stretching from 1842 to 1925. Firstly inscribed by the author: "Wm. Wordsworth from the Author", secondly inscribed: "William Wordsworth Rydal Mount Augt 1 1847", thirdly inscribed: "Purchased at the Sale of Wm Wordsworths Library, Rydal Mount, July 20th 1859, & presented to Mrs Screeton as a memento of the poet, & as a token of affectionate remembrance, from her indebted Friend A Dodgson Augt. 1859"; fourthly, inscribed: "Bought from Mr Screetons sale August 1895 by John Brown"; and lastly, bookplate of John Brown, "Aldermann John Brown, J.P. Hull, Dispersed Nov 11th 1925."
