Second half 19th century, je 64 x 66 cm, West China
These two seat covers once belonged to one of the long pile-woven bench runners on which monks were seated during religious ceremonies in West Chinese and Tibetan monasteries. At the centre of the ochre field, a large Fo dog depicted in motion and front-facing has been incorporated into a disc medallion. The four corners are decorated with diagonal stems and lotus blossoms. The main border displays Buddhist symbols. – Good condition.
