Description
Monumental Georgian Bloor / Derby Platter in a Kakiemon Imari Pattern Circa 1815. This is a fantastic example of the very rare Formal Lotus Tree pattern. The platter is massive with a deep well at 21 1/2x17x3 and has a old 19th c. stapled repair to one side - see the pictures. Still a very impressive platter in one of the scarcest early Derby patterns. Originally this early 19th century platter would have been part of an extensive dinner and dessert service commissioned by wealthy clients, usually for a large estate. The Formal Lotus Tree pattern features a flowering lotus tree adorned with vibrant iron red and gilded flowers. Two small birds are perched on a branch, one iron red and one cobalt blue, both with ornate gilded highlights. The plate is decorated in rich iron red, vibrant green and underglaze cobalt blue, typical of the Imari style. Early Derby pieces are very sought after particularly those in the Imari palette. This plate is ideal for anyone looking to own this scarce early pattern. The size and weight of the plate makes it ideally suited for display. This is a highly collectible Derby plate that would make a wonderful addition to your discerning Derby collection or indeed an outstanding stand alone piece. Measures 21 1/2x17x3 and weighs
