In this sculpture, Lapinski has appropriated a mass produced Swedish children’s chair and upgraded it by cutting out the cartoon face previously painted on the back, and replacing it with beautiful hand caned work.

Californian artist Lisa Lapinski combines disparate motifs and ideologies in conceptual installations that draw upon a vast range of artistic, cultural, and architectural references. She arranges systems of objects—found as well as crafted, plus photographs and drawings—in imaginative “constellations” that call upon the viewer to actively unpack their meaning. Lisa Lapinski’s imaginative sculptures incorporate mainstays of their genre—wood and wire, cement and clay—as well as painting, photography, drawing, and more unconventional materials such as ornate wallpaper, nail salon advertisements, boxed foodstuffs, and Snoopy figurines. Her work often resonates with narrative meaning deriving from philosophical, historical, and psychological sources. Lapinski’s sculptures are intricately crafted and formally compelling. Through her unexpected combinations of imagery and materials—both playful and foreboding—viewers are drawn to decipher the uncertain narratives. Lisa Lapinski has received an MFA in 2000 from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. She has had solo exhibitions organized at the MOCA, Los Angeles; Johann König, Berlin; among others. Lapinski exhibited in the 2006 Whitney Biennial,Day for Night; and has received in 2004 a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship for Installation Art.

In overall very good condition with some minor chips to the paint along the front feet.
