BRASS SALVAGED FROM USS MAINE
Square segment of brass, 2 3/4" square, mounted on a wood plaque, 4 1/2" square, taken from the battleship U.S.S. Maine, which was destroyed in Havana Harbor by an internal explosion on Feb. 15, 1898. This tragedy sparked public outcry and directly led to the Spanish-American War. The plate is stamped: "U.S.S.
