Rare and original Rookwood lamp with factory installed Handel fittings and shade. The vase is a nicely crafted, Decorated Porcelain, done by E.T. Hurley in 1925. Pictured are five very colorful macaws perched amongst blooming fuchsia. This is a typical Hurley scenic from the mid 1920's but the artwork is more precise than usual. Marks include the Rookwood logo, shape number 1126 C and most of Hurley's initials in black slip. Height of the ceramic portion is 9 1/2 inches. Overall height is 22 1/2 inches. Excellent condition with some crazing. Nice Handel Arts and Crafts shade design 1678. The exterior of the 18 inch chipped ice shade has pink floral and green scroll leaf border below a mustard yellow crown. Signed Handel, 1678 with the artist's cypher F. L. possibly for Florence Lewis. There is a 1 inch by 1/2 inch flat chip on the inside of the shade at the lower rim which is not visible from the outside. Cloth electrical cord possibly original. Handsome lamp in beautiful condition. During the 1920's, Rookwood purchased fittings and shades from Handel and applied them to their products, both production pieces and, as in this case, artist signed pieces. We see lots of pieces that have after market conversions but this is an original Rookwood lamp.
