Very Rare Limoges style egg shaped box decorated on the lid with a frog getting ready to eat a small red insect, the work of Albert Humphreys in 1882 or 1883. The bottom of the box has been decorated as well and the inside portion of both pieces has been glazed. Marked on the bottom with Rookwood in block letters, the artist's incised initials and the impressed anchor mark, which dates the piece to 1882 or 1883. In his book, Herbert Peck lists this as shape 44, Easter Egg. There is fine overall crazing, two tiny nicks at the rim of either piece and several small glaze skips on the top half. Size is 3 3/4 inches tall and 5 1/2 inches long. This is the first of this shape we've ever offered.
