Item Details

Description

Unusual Rookwood Vellum glaze scenic vase with several yachts at full sail done in 1909 by Sara Sax. Done like a white line woodblock print, the white areas that make up the waves and lines in the sails are cut back to the white clay body. Marks include the company logo, the date, shape number 180 D, impressed V, an incised V for Vellum glaze and the impressed monogram of the artist. Height is 6 1/2 inches and width is also 6 1/2 inches. Fine overall crazing with professional restoration to a pin head size nick at the rim and a short line at the same spot. Very interesting technique.
