Description
Rare Rookwood French Red vase with Art Deco stylized flowers done in both gloss and mat finishes, the work of Sara Sax in 1922. The flowers encircle the lower half of the vase in increasingly larger alternating patterns with use of the French Red color and two shades of green mat finish. The interior is lined in French Red glaze and the upper half is done in a crystalline gun metal type glaze. Marked with the Rookwood logo and date, shape number 2268 E and the impressed monogram of the artist. Uncrazed. Height is 5 1/4 inches. Exhibited in Rookwood Pottery The Glorious Gamble in 1992 and pictured in the catalog as plate 82 on page 147. Accompanying this lot is a Glorious Gamble poster with a detail of the vase itself.
