Description

Description: Gilded brass barrels are laminated with select mother of pearl. Hallmarked on the top of each MOP eyepiece, "LEMAIRE FI - PARIS" and the LeMaire "bee" logo, the underside of the middle brass frame is metal stamp "36" and the "bee" logo on the right side. Gifted from Morris & Lottie on August 13, 1891 engraving.

History: The Lemaire firm began in 1846 in Paris, rue Oberkampf. 22 & 26 by Armand Lemaire. They produced a variety of optical apparatus including binoculars. The French term for binoculars is 'jumelles' or twin girls. The Lemaire firm worked until 1955. Lemaire exported his goods all over the world. Armand Lemaire died in 1885 and his son in law Jean Baptiste Baille took over the running of the firm now called the Baille Lemaire group.

Condition

The mechanics are in good working order and the lenses are free of scratches. The mother of pearl on both of the barrels and eyepieces is intact and in flawless condition. The gilded brass frame has some minor scuffing on the bottom, and small scratches.
