Description: Three pieces, all hallmarked Georg Jensen and Sterling Denmark. Ribbed handles with scroll and acorn finial. 1. Cake knife, stainless blade, 6.75" long. 2. Caviar spreader knife with 2.75" tortoise shell blade. 3. Sugar spoon, shovel shape, 4" long. Total wt. 169 grams.
History: Born in 1866, Jensen was the son of a knife grinder in the town of Raadvad just to the north of Copenhagen. Jensen began his training in goldsmithing at the age of 14 in Copenhagen. His apprenticeship with the firm Guldsmed Andersen, ended in 1884, and this freed young Georg to follow his artistic interests. Georg Jensen was bought in 1972 by Royal Copenhagen, which was mereged with Orrefors Kosta Boda, Boda-Nova Höganäs Keramik and the Venini, to create the Royal Scandinavia Group. In 2001, Royal Scandinavia Group was sold to the private equity group Axcel Capital Partners. In 2012 it was sold to Investcorp for US$140 million.
