Umberto III (1136, Avigliana, Piedmont – 1189), surnamed the Blessed, was Count of Savoy from 1148 to 1189. In 1188 he founded the Monastery of Sant'Antonio di Ranverso. His figure became legendary for centuries, especially in the fervent faith which was in fact tied and was beatified in 1838 by Pope Gregory XVI.His memorial day is March 4.

Boniface of Savoy (c. 1217 – 18 July 1270) was a medieval Bishop of Belley in France and Archbishop of Canterbury in England. After his death in Savoy, his tomb became the object of a cult, and he was eventually beatified in 1839.

4to (195x144 mm), half mottled leather binding, marbled paper at boards, gilt title on a red leather label at spine, yellow edges sprinkled in green; pp. XXIV, 226, [2], [1] plate [here wanting]. Title-page in red and black types with a chalcographic coat of arms of the noble Spada-Ubaldini families. Chalcographic portrait of Maria Mattia Pierini at frontispiece, here wanting. Large figured xyl. head-letters. Fine xyl. head-pieces.

Maria Mattia Pierini (born in Cerbara on July 28, 1698 and died on Dec. 24, 1743), was brought up in the faith, she had the gift of the stigmata.

Provenance: Handwritten ownership inscription at bottom of title-page (Melchiorre Galeotti). Handwritten gift dedication at recto of front free-leaf from Melchiorre Galeotti to Ippolita Micheli.
