RARE ACCOUNT ON THE HISTORY OF THE PASSAGE IN SAVONA OF POPE PIUS VII ARRESTED BY ORDER OF NAPOLEON ON JULY 6, 1809

History of the passage in Savona of Pope Pius VII arrested by order of Napoleon on July 6, 1809. The pontiff was conducted in Grenoble where he arrived on 21 of that month. But a few days later, another imperial order had him bring back to Savona, bound to his home. Here Pius VII remained until June 1812. In the appendix of the book there is a rich array of original historical documents.
Pope Pius VII (14 August 1742 - 20 August 1823), born Barnaba Niccolò Maria Luigi Chiaramonti, reigned as Pope from 14 March 1800 to his death in 1823. Chiaramonti was also a monk of the Order of Saint Benedict in addition to being a well known theologian and bishop throughout his life.
