Description
Wood, painting on lacquer, gilding, metal. China, Qing Dynasty, 17th to 18th cent.
This early two-doored chest offers on the front an effective, scenic-figurative relief in der art of Shanshui, with lake, pavilions, bridge, ship, islands with trees, also little mountains. On the left under a canopy on a throne is a rather Mongolian-looking prince enjoying a musical performance. The strolling female musicians play brass- and string instruments, gong, drums etc. Near a bridge, a boat with dragon-head is being rowed with construction in its center like a pavilion and the figure on the bow plays a string instrument. Before another building, which is a four-storied observation platform, sits an ape-looking creature with peculiar shoes. The metal buckles are decorated with geometric patterns or vines, four large on the sides and three large, irregular-cloudy contoured in the middle. The sides continue the front motif, however reduced and the buckles dominate. On the reversem a label with hand-written note “Prinzessin Witgenstein, 18. XI. 69“. Characteristics of use and aging.
人物紋黑漆加木加金屬造櫝。中國,清代,17 至 18 世紀。大小 91 x 109 x 41 厘米。維也納
舊藏。
SIZE 91 x 109 x 41 CM (HWD)
