Description
Nigeria, Igbo peoples, early 20th century CE. This is a fun mask that will be sure to spark conversation: an Ónyéochá (white person) mask, carved in the same style as a usual Igbo mask but with the features of a white man, including straight hair and a large safari hat atop his head. The face has a jutting, open mouth, and large, narrowed eyes. Historical photographs of similar masks show Igbo people wearing them as a parody of "white man" activities, including as a "researcher" observing the festivities and jotting down notes in a notebook. Size: 8.5" W x 13.75" H (21.6 cm x 34.9 cm)
