"Aimee Semple McPherson (1890-1944) AKA Sister Aimee, was a Canadian-American Los Angeles–based evangelist, Faith healer, & media celebrity in the 1920s & 1930s. She founded the Foursquare Church. McPherson has been noted as a pioneer in the use of modern media, using radio to draw on the growing appeal of popular entertainment. In her time she was the most publicized Christian evangelist, even surpassing Billy Sunday. She conducted public faith healing demonstrations before large crowds; testimonies conveyed tens of thousands of people healed. McPherson's articulation of the United States as a nation founded and sustained by divine inspiration continues to be echoed by many evangelical pastors in churches today. News coverage sensationalized her misfortunes with family & church members; particularly inflaming accusations she had fabricated her reported kidnapping in 1926, turning it into a national spectacle. The movie "Elmer Gantry" starring Burt Lanaster uses McPherson's life "incidents" as some of its plot line. She was often pilloried as a fake & charlatan in her Faith healing spectaculars. Her books are very scarce particularly in DJ. This book tells of her pre-WWII trip to Japan & other points in the Far East. Of paritcular note is the Association inscription to present day Faith Healer Benny Hinn, also widely denounced as a fake. On the 1st blank end paper, the inscription gives the book's original owners name/address then concludes: "(MY FATHER) DECEASED 1948./7-28-94/TO: BENNY HINN FROM: (followed by name adress label)/DUE TO YOUR REQUEST. (See picture) Apparently Hinn requested the book (and a donation) at a revival meeting. In the recent past, Hinn has been widely criticized for fake faith healing, personal money grubbing & wild predictions of Jesus about to appear for His "Second Coming" on stage at Hinn revivals. So far Jesus has been a no-show at Hinn's predicted arrival times, but "my gawd how the money rolls in." Internally tight & unmarked, pages slightly age toned but not brittle.
