A PRE- COLUMBIAN ANTHROPOMORPHIC URN, CHANCAY, PERU, 1000 A.D., 1425 A.D., of egg shaped form, supporting two patterned cocoa bags on his back secured by ropes draped across the shoulders and held with square shaped hands and the legs in low relief. The face with large round eyes distinguished by tear paths, a downcast frown-like expression and thin pointed nose, ending in a spotted headdress centering protruding disc like ornament. A young llama is perched on one of the shoulders. Height: 10" NOTE: The Chancay people of central Peru were not famous for their art. Their clay work was enhanced with simple black and white slip paint and more often than not had a very boorish appearance, often presuming to be humorous. The egg shaped vessel is one of the most common forms of this culture.

The llama's tail, tip of the snout and right ear are missing. Piece of the headband ornament missing.
