Item Details
Description
4 Indian Motorcycle Glass Slides. These slides appear to be an original photographic image of the Indian used to create the emblem, c.1930s., for Indian Motorcycles, Springfield, MA. The main image for this lot is a series of the 4 slides layered and colors inverted; the secondary images show the actual image of the side (Darker) as well as a color inverted image of each slide (Lighter). Consignor Notes: Recently Uncovered Advertising Glass Slides from Indian Motorcycle in Springfield Massachusetts. Glass Slides are from Brooks Bank Note Company which was located on Wilbraham Ave, a street over from Indian Motorcycle. Slides depict the original Indian being photographed for the new logo in the 1930's. There are four 7 x 10 Glass negatives of a man dressed like an Indian, this has become a Iconic image of Indian Motorcycle. To our knowledge these are the only ones in existence. We believe this image to be original image and has been utilized by the company over the years. Each negative represents a different color. Negatives can be reproduced into a photo with stunning detail. Glass Slide Negatives can be Framed and displayed at the 7 x 10 dimensions. Negatives were most likely left at Brooks Bank Note Company and never retrieved. Container in which they are stored is a Kodak Photographic paper box from the early 40's, late 30's labeled Indian Motorcycle Co. Negatives. An employee of Brooks Bank Note must of labeled them so they would not get misplaced and utilized an empty photographic paper box. Also includes a 6 X 6 film negative stating America's Pioneer Motorcycle , added after 1936. * Original Glass Negatives combined with America's Pioneer Motorcycle logo was the last time Indian Motorcycle did a printing before abandoning them at Brooks Bank Note Company. They still utilized the logo from copying the image without the original negatives, you can notice as time went on the Image became watered down/colored in. These Slides are actually Positives, Positives provide greater detail than Negatives, most people still refer to them as Negatives. Negatives has been kept by a past employee of Brooks Bank Note Company who took orders from J Loring Brooks, owner's son of Brooks Bank Note and founder of the Big E in West Springfield Massachusetts.
