Four works on paper; Cabeza, Woodcut (framed); 11 7/8" x 7 5/8" (plate); 13 1/2" x 9" (sight); Untitled (Caricature); Pencil on , Signed, 9 1/2" x 8 1/2" (sheet); Feliz ano Nuevo; Woodcut; 3 1/2" x 4 3/4" (sheet); Untitled (Tamayo); Paper cut-out; 7" x 5 1/4" (sheet); Provenance: The artist; Betty Esman; Private Collection, New Jersey; Note: Betty Esman (Samuels) was an artist who had her first gallery opening with Milton Avery. Betty and her husband, Vernon Samuels, were good friends of Olga and Rufino Tamayo and collected many of Tamayo's works. This lot is accompanied by a handwritten note from Betty Esman describing the occasion when Tamayo created the "Cabeza" woodcut while visiting her. The lot also includes a second unsigned example of this image. The pencil drawing was also created when Tamayo was visiting her New York studio and apartment. The cutout was sent by Tamayo to friends as a Christmas card. The Betty and Vernon Samuels Papers are now held by the Smithsonian.

Condition
Feliz an Nuevo: Not examined out of frame. Sheet is fully visible. Loss at lower left corner of sheet. Soft crease at upper left corner. Linear hard creases running diagonally into image in lower right quadrant of sheet. Handling marks throughout. Caricature: Pencil on Strathmore Script (watermark). Bottom edge of sheet is deckled. Some surface soiling and pencil smudges to sheet. Paper cut-out: Paper is torn at lower left corner. Some minor tears to other areas of lattice cut areas. Circular area of staining to paper in one area. Paper is faded in lower left corner. Woodblock: Right edge of sheet is deckled. Soiling and extraneous ink in margins.
