Description
Papua New Guinea, ca. 1940 CE. Extremely rare and important wooden ancestoral figure painted in red, yellow and green. While finding polychrome ancestoral figures is not all that rare, this unusual example was painted using marine pigments, probably acquired from naval forces from Japan or the US durting WWII. Size: 5.25" W x 18.75" H (13.3 cm x 47.6 cm).
Provenance: Ex-Adeon Gallery, Chicago, IL, acquired prior to 1970.
