NEAR MINT 13th Floor Elevators 1966 FD24 Family Dog Avalon Poster - 1ST. NEAR MINT 13th Floor Elevators 1966 FD24 Family Dog Avalon Poster - 1ST
13th Floor Elevators Poster - Avalon Ballroom (San Francisco, CA) Sep 2, 1966 (FD024). the world of psychedelic poster art, Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley reigned supreme through the hallowed early age of concert posters. To celebrate the coming of Roky Erickson's 13th Floor Elevators to the stage of the Family Dog's Avalon Ballroom, the famed poster duo designed this bright and surrealistic artwork to accompany the event. In September of '66, the Elevators were well on their way to becoming an underground cult favorite, and remain today a musical institution that's influenced a legion of young bands looking to emulate their psychedelic garage rock stylings. With an opening set by their Texas brethren the Sir Douglas Quintet, this show was a powerhouse of eccentric '60s rock 'n' roll. We believe this poster to be a true pre-concert 1st printing measuring 14" x 19" on vellum with "The Bindweed Press San Francisco" in the green border under "Avalon." The Family Dog logo is white. In the 2nd printing the Family Dog logo is black - so that is why we believe this to be a true first. See pictures for distinguishing marks including single pinhole at top center. light creasing in 1 inch of right bottom corner, 1/4 in tear in bottom left corner. All well hidden once framed. Back is very clean. ARTIST: Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley.
