BOVET - a gentleman's Mono-Rattrapante chronograph wrist watch. Stainless steel case. Numbered 5347. Unsigned manual wind Valjoux calibre 84. Grey dial with Arabic numeral hour markers, subsidiary black recorder dials to three and nine. Fitted to an unsigned brown leather strap with stainless steel pin buckle. 37mm. The Rattrapante or split-seconds chronograph allows the user to measure two separate events. The complication in its most recognisable form has two centre seconds hands to perform this function and is an intricate feat of engineering reserved for premium watches. There were attempts to create simplified versions and this is lot represents one alternative. Bovet's Mono-Rattrapante achieved simultaneous event timing with only one centre seconds hand, this was done by utilising an eccentric spring on the chronograph driving wheel; by depressing the bottom pusher while the chronograph was running, the centre seconds would stop. On releasing the pusher, the spring would propel the seconds hand to the actual elapsed time.

Movement is not currently functioning. Chronograph is not currently functioning and the driving wheel is missing the eccentric spring.

Movement has scratches, marks and tarnishing commensurate with general wear visible to the naked eye.

Dial appears to have noticeable marks and scratches.

Hands show holes and discolouration to the luminous paint.

Glass has noticeable scuffs and multiple scratches.

Case shows scratches, marks and dints.

Crown is currently functioning correctly; the surface has noticeable scratches and dinting.

Strap shows wear with visible marks, creasing and discolouration.

Buckle shows marks and scratches when viewed under a 4x loupe.
