Description
A neat antique (dated 1878) Mountain Climbers Cane or Staff. The staff is made of a hard wood and has a metal pick on the bottom. It has a hand carved or stamped notations of various Swiss Mountain peaks which I assume the original owner climbed. The Mountain Climbers Staff was acquired from a Massachusetts estate but there was not information with it. The carved notations are in a downward spiral design and are continuous around the staff. They are: 1878, Chamonix, Montanvert Mer de Glace, de du Nant Blanc Mauvais Pas, Chapeau Giessbach, Grindelwald Glaci Muier, Superieur, Lauterbrunnen Murren, Staubbach, Geneve, Lausanne, Bern, Brienz, Interlaken, Brunig-Passe, Lungern, Luzern, Rigi Kulm. The Climbers Cane is long at " high. The staff measures 68 3/4" high x 1 1/8" in diameter.

Condition
It was well used but has been taken care of. There is a nice amount of wear on the top from handling during the climbs.
