Description
Another great sport using ball and club originated in Scotland, the game of golf. Why not baseball? This watch chain has a pendant with a cameo scene on one side and intaglio on the other. It is well over 100 years old. Both figures appear to be standing among thistles, fully dressed for baseball. The bezel of the pendant is also decorated in thistle leaves, as is the chain. The whole element appears to convey the game of baseball being played in Scotland. There has always been controversy surrounding the origin of baseball. Why not Scotland?? Time window 5:00 to 5:10 PM Pacific time.note: it has been suggested that this may be a game of cricket. However, the batter is not in the batter's stance for cricket (bat is held down in cricket). The player is wearing a billed cap, also not usual for cricket, and his pants are striped, also never seen in the game of cricket. The game may be somewhere between a baseball game and a cricket game, but it doesn't appear to be traditional English cricket.
Condition
Poor to fair. The chain lacks a swivel. Much wear. The intaglio side has missing glass on the left side.
