Description
The first handwritten letter of four parts on one sheet of paper has "5/16/05" written in green ink at the top of the letter. It is unsigned but is definitely in Grey's hand had possesses great content. He says he "...never dreamed, so stupid I was, that your illness was my fault. And it has been a hard and bitter blow to me". But then he starts putting the blame on her with "It is incomprehensible to me how you could allow worry and jealousy to drag you down as it has" and ..."Where was the sense of me ever telling you about other women?". The letter then moves the topic away from Dolly and to himself; The second letter is from 1906 and has him stating, "...I feel humiliated, and sort of disgusted with myself." and "...outside of my admiration for women, which I regard as my great fault, I am proud as hell of your opinion of regard for me, and last night when I saw a blush of shame and ? and disappointment on your face I just felt sick". Apparently the topic was about a specific dinner engagement and how he disappointed her. Signed "Doc". Very Good condition with usual folds, last with envelope.
