Description
Circa 1860-1880. 13' 6" with tips short as noted below. Very high grade ash/lancewood 4pc/2tip rod made with rolled and soldered German silver fittings that are intricately knurled. Hanging ring guides. Reel seat mortised into the butt. Typical post-Civil War wedding band to mark the top of the reel seat. Tips are short 11 and 15 inches, respectively. The shorter of the tips has only one hanging ring guide intact, and no top. Jeffrey Hatton, in his book Rod Crafting (see page 22), attributes the rod, most likely, as he work of J.C. Conroy. Non-original bag and black anodized tube. From the Thomas C. Kerr collection of Historic 19th century fishing rods.
