Marked "Thos. J. Conroy, NY" and "The Wells" on the faceplate is this very scarce early Julius vom Hofe made raised pillar design lightweight aluminum Black Bass reel. Coming in 3" diameter, 8oz. weight, it features German silver counter balanced handle, full length foot and shouldered pillars, brass spool spindles with raised backplate housing and rubber click button and a full length unaltered foot. Henry P. Wells was a prominent Attorney and President of the National Rod and Reel Association who provided the specifications for the design of this reel. This is a fully functional reel with light corrosion and some signs of cleaning with an abrasive (possibly fine grit steel wool) in about Very Good condition.
