Item Details
Description
China, Qin and Han dynasties, ca. 210 BCE to 200 CE. This is a group of 12 round coins with square holes from ancient China; the Ban Liang coin was introduced in 210 BCE and is considered to be the first unified currency of China -- before that, coinage was minted locally and was often blade-shaped. The standardization of this currency was part of a wider drive in the Qin period to standardize a number of things including weights, measures, and axle width. Size: 1.15" W (2.9 cm)
