Description
Upper Acheulian, 1.76 million-10,000 years BP. A bifacial finely knapped flint ovate handaxe with rounded butt; in a grey-brown speckled flint with some areas of cortex present; with inked accession numbers and notations to one side: 'B.ROOM. 8-02' in black ink, 133/1986.84 in black ink, and '679 6' in red ink, all varnished over. 370 grams, 12cm (4 3/4"). Property of an Essex gentleman; formerly in the E. S. Gosling collection, 1980s; thence by descent; catalogued once in 1986.
