Description
Mainly Roman Period, 30 BC-323 AD. A mixed group of flat-section glass inlay bars in combinations of white, black, yellow, red and blue. 11 grams total, 10-49mm (1/2 - 2"). From an early 20th century French collection. Materials such as glass were made into luxury objects to suit Egyptian and Graeco-Roman tastes. Especially valued were colourful glass inlays in furniture, wooden shrines, jewellery and mummy masks. The designs of the glass inlays reflects the multicultural society of Ptolemaic and Roman Egypt, with floral patterns, millefiori, theatre masks, Nile animals and Egyptian deities being popular subjects.
