Description
Pre-Columbian, Vera Cruz, Mexico, ca. 600 to 800 CE. A lovely head from a Sonriente (smiling figure) in buff clay of a large triangular form with a grand headdress adorned with a stylized geometric step-pattern motif and round ear ornaments. The happy visage boasts wonderful features including almond-shaped eyes, arched brows, smooth high cheekbones, and most characteristically, a toothy smile. Who wouldn't smile upon seeing this happy face! Custom, museum-quality stand. Size: piece itself measures 5.25" W x 5.5" H (13.3 cm x 14 cm); 7.125" H (18.1 cm) on stand
