Description
This steel engraving was drawn by English architect, Thomas Allom ca. 1840s. It is one of the hand-tinted steel engravings in the 4 volume edition from the 1840's book, "China Illustrated".This scene is entitled, "Loading Tea Junks at Tseen-Tang ". In order to photograph it without distracting reflections we removed the glass and the engraving from the frame. After photographs were taken, we replaced the glass and the engraving in the frame. If you would like to save on shipping and plan to reframe, we will ship without the frame. Your choice. The frame is a vintage, shadow-box style and the interior is gilded while the exterior is painted a 'Chinese Red". When hung - all you see is the gilded interior framing. The matte is a double matte. The matte closest to the image is a gold color while the off-white matte is yellowed from age. The frame size is 15 1/2" x 12 1/5". The engraving has been affixed to a piece of cardboard backing. Original engravings from China Illustrated generally sell from print or book specialists for over $200.00 unframed. Our consignor has agreed to an extremely reasonable selling price. No reserve. No buyer's premium. Shipping within the Continental USA (without frame) $12.00. With frame, $25.00.
