Exquisite vintage Central American, Guatemalan hand coiled 'Barriletes" pottery in wonderful condition. This stunning piece has been hand coiled by a Guatemalan artisan as a celebration of a Mayan barriletes tradition, and features a Mayan barriletes, or kites, design flown in Guatemala to commemorate All Saints Day. These kites were created by Mayas to ward off bad spirits on All Saints Day, the day in which the deceased were allowed to visit the human world.
The bowl is signed by the artist as shown and is marked "Barriletes" on the back. The inscription on the back also indicates that the item is number 2 out of 50 created. Rare piece, fabulous craftsmanship and attention to detail.
There are no chips, cracks, repairs, or crazing.
