1870 Sir B Peacock orders insolvents explain why not surrender books&papers1870 Sir Barnes Peacock Knight, upon application of Mr. Hyde Counsel for Albert Birmingham Miller, official assignee of the estate and effects of 4 insolvents, orders the insolvents to be present personally at next hearing and explain reasons for not handing over books and papers relating their estates and effectsSir Barnes Peacock Knight was the first Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court in India. In1852, he went to India as a legal member of the Governor General_s Council. As a member of Lord Dalhousie_s council he supported the annexation of Oudh and he stood by Lord Canning all through the Mutiny. In 1859 he became the Chief Justice of the colonial Supreme Court. He was appointed as the first Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court on July 1, 1862. He returned to England in 1870.... Provenance: New York Antique Book & Manuscripts Collector-Dealer.
