Byzantium (formerly Eastern Roman Empire, modern Turkey); Byzantine, ca. 7th to 12th century CE. A beautiful bronze Byzantine cross with flaring arms that terminate in pairs of circular knobs, engraved with concentric circles. This circular motif is repeated all over the front surface. The lower terminus was intended to be inserted or attached to a processional staff. A fine example with a beautifully aged surface and gorgeous green patina! Custom stand.
