Storyboard originale del leggendario Mangaka e animatore giapponese Yoji Kuri. Senza dubbio uno degli animatori indipendenti giapponesi più noti e acclamati sia in patria che oltre confine, Kuri fondò nel 1961 il "Laboratorio di Manga Sperimentali di Kuri" (Kuri Jikken Manga Kobo) con l'intenzione di realizzare animazioni per adulti permeate da black humor e simbolismo costanti. Quest’opera è riconducibile al celebre film d'animazione Ai (Love). Il cortometraggio, premiato al Festival di Venezia del 1963, è incentrato sul tema dell'emancipazione sessuale femminile e sulla guerra dei sessi; la raffigurazione della donna, emancipata sempre più a partire dal Dopoguerra, è spesso enorme e grottesca rispetto al corrispettivo maschile, rendendo così le inconsce paure maschili, derivate dalla nuova forza sociale acquistata dalle loro partner. La donna che cerca, trova e assoggetta un uomo è quindi rappresentata grande, brusca e sadica. Allo stesso tempo Kuri sottolinea la negatività dell'"antagonista" maschile, che risulta debole, onanista e incline alla guerra, rappresentato come piccolo essere da umiliare. Bruno Bozzetto, che lo considera un amico e maestro, disse di lui: «Un personaggio alto un metro e trenta, grassoccio, che è un genio assoluto, realizzava cose incredibili, al limite del porno, della follia. Era davvero un matto, ma mi piaceva per quello!». Al retro etichetta di provenienza.

Without a doubt one of the most famous and acclaimed independent Japanese animators both in and outside of Japan, Kuri founded the “Kuri’s laboratory for experimental manga” (Kuri Jikken Manga Kobo), in 1961, with the intention of creating animations for adults that were permeated by black humor and symbolism. The work we are presenting can be traced back to the animation film Ai (Love). This movie-short, that won an award at the Festival di Venezia in 1963, is based on the theme of female sexual emancipation and the battle of the sexes. The depiction of women, who became more and more emancipated after the war, often makes them look big and grotesque compared to the male figures, thus embodying the subconscious fears of men, fears that had their origin in the new social power that was recently gained by their female partners. The woman that looks for, finds and enslaves man is depicted as big, brutal and sadistic. At the same time, kuri underlines the negativity of the male antagonist that is shown as weak, onanist and attracted to war. Males are depicted as small creatures that are meant to be humiliated. Bruno Bozzetto, that considers Kuri a friend and teacher tells us of him «A 130cm tall chubby man, who is an absolute genius, he created incredible things that bordered pornography and madness. He was really crazy, but I liked him exactly for this reason!». Stamp of provenance at the back.
