Description
An inter-line tag used for baggage that was moved from some point on the Boston & Maine Railroad to Bridgton, Maine. It's a strap check (used on the actual baggage) so it is double sided with reverse routing. The agent would apply the strap so that the correct route was shown. This is the earlier B&SR name and not the B&H name. It also mentions the P&O which is the Portland & Ogdengsburg (later Maine Central Mountain Division). The P&O was absorbed by the Maine Central in 1888 so this tag pre-dates that acquisition. It's a rectangular shape with clipped corners. It also has the error in the name Bridgton. There is no "e". It measures about 1 1/2" by 2". It is number 177. It's in great shape with its original enamel. It has a John Robbins, Boston hallmark on one side above the strap opening.
