Description
Time Magazine Nov. 20th 1944 Featured Edgar Bergen and his "Friends" on the cover together with a history of Bergen and McCarthy. The heads carved by Robert Wallace were used as the prototypes for Bergens Characters. Each approx. 12" tall includes Charlie McCarthy, Mortimer Snerd and Effie Klinker. Wonderfully Well Done and historic pieces. Light repair above Mortimers left eye. Chip on Effie Klinkers Ear. Fabulous piece of American entertainment history. UPDATED INFORMATION: Bergen hired Robert Wallace to give Charlie and Mortimer a facelift, getting them ready for television. Going through Wallace's belongings, a personal statement by Wallace stated that not only did he sculpture the improved heads of Charlie and Mortimer but he also made "new bodies with hands and feet to give Bergen more realistic dummies." Bergen also asked Wallace to CREATE Effie. Bergen gave him some ideas for Effie's look; and Wallace sought input from reputable illustrators to come up with the design and create Effie. The three heads we have in our possession are Robert Wallace's, the artist's personal copies.
