EXCEEDINGLY RARE, GRAND-SIZE BISQUE SMILING PORTRAIT POUPEE, RARE SIZE M, BY LEON CASIMIR BRU. Marks: Depose M (forehead). 28”. Bisque swivel head on bisque shoulderplate, blue paperweight eyes with spiral threading, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, feathered and widely-arched brows, closed mouth with upturned lip corners depicting a gentle smile, accented lips, pierced ears, light brown mohair wig over cork pate, kid poupee body with gusset jointing and separately-stitched fingers, wears gorgeous ivory silk satin gown with train, netting and floral veil, no shoes. Commentary: Circa 1872, rare size poupee thought to be the largest size created and likely made for exhibition only; has the very finest quality, superb pale bisque complexion, delicate facial painting, original body in very good condition, exquisite costume.
