Japanese "pillar print," unsigned, attributed to the artist Isoda Koryusai (active 1764-1788) by Jacob Pins, and listed as No. 505 in his landmark work, The Japanese Pillar Print (1982). The print is from the estate of Gladys B. Wright, with notice to that effect taped to the back of the foam core to which it is loosely shrink-wrapped. Gladys Wright (1904-1908), the wife of David S. Wright (1895-1997), a son of Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959). The couple personally received this as a gift from David's father. The elder Wright was a passionate collector of Japanese art, particularly woodblock prints, eventually becoming a dealer. It is estimated that Frank Lloyd Wright bought over 20,000 Japanese prints, most of which were sold, bartered or given away during his life time.
