Ancient Pre-Columbian San Sebastian Seated Woman Nayarit, Mexico.Ca. 100 B.C.-250 A.D.Size:12”H. Red-orange pottery seated female figure having two legs supports under her buttocks. Depicted with a rotund lower body and small head, shoulders pulled back. Wearing an unusual bandolier across her chest, decorated with small applied ball ornaments. Black resist geometric body and facial decoration over a red-orange ground, with painted white highlights. A few losses to the applied ball ornaments, otherwise intact, exc. cond.Provenance: Private CA. collection, ex. Jo & Maurice Yanez collection, Pasadena, CA., acquired 1960s to 1970.
