Description
[Albums/US Navy] 3 Albums or Scrapbooks. 4to/folio. Sold with all faults. ++ Album of over 60 photographs, probably Korean War-era. Many individual or group shots of Navy personnel, some on board ship, followed by photographs of a shoreline, prop plane and Navy ship. Photographs mostly 2 ¾ x 2 ¼ in. to 4 ½ x 3 1/8 in. but varies. Some slightly faded, photographs mostly very good to near fine, a few more worn. Tipped in at front of album is a leaf bearing 5 currency notes (or 6 including one placed in loose, Haiti, 2 Ceylon, 3 others). Currency notes affixed with tape, 1 previously split and poorly tape repaired. That leaf also has 5 coins taped to it (incl 1 Hong Kong). Taped to album’s front inside cover are 2 ads (Broadway Cabaret and Cigarros Jose L. Piedra Habana). Album’s exterior very good. ++ Album of over 80 photographs maintained by Lt. Herbert Lewis and his wife, possibly in Hawaii, [c. 1950s]. Photographs show beaches, water, boats, a mess hall, soccer game, lounge and football game w/ photos of a prop plane on a landing strip and men in uniform, etc. Mostly 2 ½ x 3 ¼ in. to 4 ¼ x 6 ¼ in., but varies. Some photos have color change and/or slight foxing. Album leaves have some degree of surface stain or soil. A minority of the photos are separated/insecure. At least 1 was never attached (placed in loose). Album’s joint split and chipped. ++ Scrapbook-album containing photographs, handwritten, and printed items, maintained by John Morse, born. c. 1922. Dates appearing in album are 1923-1949, most items without handwritten date.
