This impressive porcelain figurine depicts a centaur carrying a basket of fruit on his shoulders and young Bacchus on his back. It is painted in polychrome style under glaze. The figure was made after the 1912 Model Nr. 10180 by Wilhelm Widemann as indicated by the signature “W. Wiedemann” on the back.
The figure was produced by the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin around 1920. Apart from the mark of the blue scepter under the glaze it also features a stamped mark as well as impressed and carved numbers. The virtuously performed work of porcelain art is chipped minimally at one of the pedestal’s edges. The dimensions are: Height 34 cm, width 25 cm, depth 10 cm.
Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin
The manufactory was founded in 1763 by Friedrich the Great. It was based on three private companies that had tried for a while to produce porcelain in Berlin. The manufactory is located near the Tiergarten in Berlin since 1871. It took up the production o up the production of painted porcelain tiles under the direction of Professor Alexander Kips and made a huge profit. After the destruction of the manufactory during the Second World War the land Berlin took over the company in 1988. Since 2006 the company is owned by Jörg Woltmann.
