Description
Exceptional Japanese Cloisonne Vase, Meiji period (1868-1912), ca. 1880-1890s, the Nagoya ornate vase with enamels on copper with gilded rims, lavishly decorated border and reserves depicting birds and flowers, ducks and marsh grasses, cranes and bamboo and chrysanthemums and quail, h. 11-1/2", w. 7". A similar vase is in the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, United Kingdom.
Condition
In generally very good condition. Crazing and bubbling on the interior and underside with some patination to the gilt-metal rims. Unevenness on the underside of the splayed lip probably from the production process and age. A few pinprick-sized surface anomalies and light overall wear.
