Item Details
Description
Steinway and Sons Rosewood Patent Grand Piano, ca. 1868, in the rococo taste, with applied carving and large carved cabriole legs, bearing the serial number 17177, h. 39", w. 55", l. 86".
Condition
It has not been examined by a technician; however, our assessment is as follows: In good condition. There are two keys in the lower half of the keyboard that need attention, as they do not strike. There are numerous "wedged" repaired shrinkage cracks to the soundboard. There are other existing tight shrinkage cracks still present to the soundboard. Many of the ivories have slight line cracks at their tips from age and use, and yellowing as well. The lowest "A" key with a chip and the next "B" key has been trimmed slightly at the tip. It appears to have been re-strung in the last 30-50 years. The case has also been professionally refinished at one time. It is currently slightly out of tune.
