Description
winter farm scene, 10" square, nicely framed... Keith was born in Tarrytown, New York, and raised in the New York City area. His familyincluded two uncles who were professional illustrators and art directors, but a talent andinterest in art was shown by most of the whole family. He painted as a hobby for quite anumber of years before he found a number of acquaintances and friends showed interest in purchasing some of his watercolors. Their interest in his work was followed bya number of galleries approaching him with offers to exhibit his work. He immediatelyfound the art-loving public to share the interest in his artistic efforts, and in the late1960's he decided to become a full-time artist. He began to teach watercolor, became amember, and shortly thereafter the President of the Art League of Nassau County (LongIsland) was selected as a member of the prestigious Salmagundi Club , the oldestprofessional art club in the U.S., and began to do workshops and demonstrations forart groups in the Northeast.Always finding rural landscape to be his greatest area of artistic inspiration, he decidedto relocate to Vermont, where the subject matter he sought was abundant, and foundhimself to be numbered among the foremost watercolorists in that state. His associationwith the Southern Vermont Arts Center was a rousing success, with many one-man shows there to his credit, and representation in several important galleries in that state. After twenty or so years residing in Vermont, he relocated again, for personal reasons,to the Brandywine Valley area of Pennsylvania, where many of the artists whose work heparticularly admires such as Andrew and N.C Wyeth and Howard Pyle, were iconic figuresin American art history. He became Vice-President of the Delaware Foundation for theVisual Arts, a fine organization that seeks to support the interest in art in High Schoolstudents through scholarships which the Foundation provides.Keith has won a number of important prizes and awards, the latest of which is First Prize in painting at the Hagley Museum, and is currently exhibiting at some of the outstanding galleries in the Brandywine area, and teaching at the Osher Academy for Lifelong Learning in Wilmington, Delaware. He still finds the rural landscape to be his greatestartistic inspiration, and can be found searching out beautiful subjects here without neglecting the wealth of material he has found in New England. Keith has in recent yearsadded oils to his mediums and now finds acrylics to be a fascinating and inspiring medium.
