Freyberg, Conrad. (German, 1842-1950) “Hegyes” (baby).Oil on canvas painting. The horse in stable painting is signed Conrad Freyberg 1903 on lower left, brass tag on front titled Hegyes (Baby). Original oak frame has gilt plaster stirrups with some loss. In good condition. Painting measures 21 ” x 26 ”. Frame measures 26 1/2” x 32”.
From De.wikipedia.org: Conrad Freyberg formed at the Berlin Art Academy and then enters the studio Carl Steffecks, after whose he the soldier and horse painting devoted. He soon found in the individual equestrian portrait as in whole groups of riders on a smaller scale a specialty which he trained with great luck, by linking likeness with elegant presentation. From there he went to even figure richer descriptions quiet about moments from the Franco-German war, of which Prince Hohenlohe at Clamart outside Paris, arrival of Prince Frederick Charles on the battlefield of Vionville, surrender of Metz (1877), the Trooping before Prince Frederick Karl (1883) and the Parade at Longchamp before Paris are to be emphasized. Less happy is he in nature large equestrian portraits. Among the smaller riders and portrait groups are the most important: Prince Charles of Prussia with his entourage before Paris (1872), riding of Prince Charles to Parforcejagd (1876), group of Garde du Corps officers (1875) and Collection of Arms in Letzlingen (1881) , Together with Eugen Boermel 1901 he created the Prinz-Albrecht-monument in Berlin-Charlottenburg.
