Description
Group of Seven Chinese Scholar's Items, 18th - 19th Century.
1. A Square Lacquer Plate with Mother of Pearl Inlay, 18th Century. This lacquered plate has mother of pearl inlay depicting landscapes with people and buildings. The borders of the plate have inlaid birds and flowers along with a decorative border. The underside of the plate has inlaid floral imagery. The square plate is approximately 5 3/8 inches in width.
2. Pair of 17th - 18th Century Lacquer Trays. These lovely square black trays both have landscape scenes of inlaid mother of pearl. The trays are approximately 4 1/2 inches wide.
3. Pair of Soapstone Stamps with Wood Bases in Original Box, Early 20th Century. These two square, pillar shaped, polished, soapstone stamps have a lightly carved scrolling pattern on either side of the face of the stamp. Both have a single character mark on the bottom. The edges of the tops are slightly rounded. The two wooden bases are covered in fabric of blue, pink, green and black. They are in their original wooden box. The stamps are approximately 3 3/4 inches high each. They are both approximately 5/8 of an inch in width.
4. A Lacquer Wood Tea Boat, 19th Century. This wooden tea boat has copper-orange and black lacquer with red flowers and green leaves. It is approximately 2 inches high by 6 7/8 inches long by 3 3/8 inches wide.
5. A Rosewood Scholar's Box, Late 19th Century. This rectangular rosewood box held scholars items. It is approximately 1 1/2 inches high by 12 1/4 inches long by 4 5/8 inches wide.
6. A Republic Period Bronze Ink Box. The lid of the bronze ink box is adorned with various characters all in different styles. The box is approximately 1 1/8 inches high by 4 1/8 inches long by 3 inches wide.
7. A Paperweight, 19th Century. This smooth knotted wood paperweight hangs from a string. It is approximately 2 1/8 inches in width. Condition: They are in overall good condition. The bronze box and lacquer trays show signs of age with the plate item having chips in the lacquer. The box for the soapstone stamps has no lid. The rosewood box is in fair condition with a crack on the bottom, pieces of wood missing, the top part of the closure missing and a broken hinge. The lacquer tea boat has a large crack in it.
